Program overview
The Aurora Interventional Radiology Residency is an integrated, clinically oriented program incorporating the specialties of Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology. The program offers a broad, comprehensive learning experience in the appropriate selection, diagnosis, treatment, and clinical care of patients.
The program’s comprehensive training is led by a highly-qualified and experienced cadre of subspecialized Interventional Radiologists serving Aurora Health Care — one of the largest healthcare systems in the country.
The program, which includes a dedicated transitional internship, mainstreams through our longstanding Diagnostic Radiology Residency curriculum during the PGY2-PGY4 years. During PGY5-PGY6, the interventional radiology resident fully immerses into a robust program designed to provide a comprehensive experience of technical procedural training, inpatient and outpatient clinical care, and exposure to the full spectrum of Interventional Radiology practice.
The goal of the residency is to provide the trainee with the tools to excel both in the clinical practice of Interventional Radiology as well as the practice of General Diagnostic Radiology. Our graduates are poised to succeed whether their future goal is private or academic practice. Residents will engage in dedicated IR rotations that include Cardiovascular and Vascular MRI, Children’s Wisconsin, ICU rotations and Diagnostic Radiology. Our program offers a dedicated core curriculum using Residency Essentials which covers all the key topic areas on interventional radiology through 78 educational modules. At program completion, residents will be eligible to sit for the American Board of Radiology IR/DR certifying exam.
