Milwaukee – Aurora BayCare Medical Center and Aurora Medical Center in Manitowoc County have been named among the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals® by Truven Health AnalyticsTM, a leading provider of data-driven analytics and solutions to improve the cost and quality of health care.

“We are very proud of the caregivers and physicians of Aurora BayCare Medical Center and Aurora Medical Center in Manitowoc County, and the outstanding care they work so hard to deliver each and every day,” said Jeff Bard, north region executive vice president of Aurora Health Care. “Being ranked among the 100 Top Hospitals reflects their strong commitment to providing patients with high-quality, cost-efficient care.”

This is the third time Aurora BayCare, in Green Bay, has received this honor. It is the first time Aurora Medical Center in Manitowoc County, in Two Rivers, has received this recognition.

The Truven study shows that if all hospitals in the U.S. performed at the level of this year’s winners:

  • more than 104,000 additional lives could be saved,
  • nearly 48,400 additional patients could be complication free,
  • $2 billion in inpatient costs could be saved, and
  • the average patient stay would decrease by half a day.

The Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals study identifies hospitals and leadership teams that provide the highest level of value to their communities, based on a national balanced scorecard measuring overall organizational performance across 11 key analytic measures, including patient care, operational efficiency and financial stability. The study has been conducted annually since 1993.

To conduct the 100 Top Hospitals study, Truven Health researchers evaluated close to 3,000 short-term, acute-care, nonfederal hospitals. 100 Top Hospitals researchers use risk-adjusted methodologies to analyze public information –  Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare website. Hospitals do not apply, and winners do not pay to market this honor.
