RSPP & IRB review fees
Since November 1, 2018, the Advocate Aurora RSPP/IRB charges IRB review fees for all human subject research studies under the oversight of the Advocate Aurora IRB or for studies ceded to an external IRB.
IRB review fee schedule
See the Advocate Aurora IRB review fee schedule for more details about the required payments.
Which studies will be charged a fee?
Any studies under the oversight of the Advocate Aurora IRB will be charged an initial review fee and may be charged an annual review fee after that. For currently approved full board and expedited studies, we'll charge an annual review fee even if the study no longer requires annual continuing review.
For studies that have been ceded to an external IRB, we will only charge a one-time initial review fee when you submit the initial ceding request to the Advocate Aurora RSPP office.
How much are the fees?
See the Advocate Aurora IRB review fee schedule.
Are fees one-time or annual?
Both. We'll only charge initial review fees once, but annual review fees apply to nonexempt studies until study closure.
Are the fees refundable?
No, all review fees are nonrefundable.
When are fees due?
Payment is due 60 days after generation of the IRB review fee invoice. We may send an invoice to the Aurora PI for investigator-initiated research or directly to the study sponsor if the study is managed by Aurora Research Business Services. If sent to the Aurora PI, it will be his/her responsibility to forward the invoice to the appropriate payor.
What if the study isn't approved or doesn't happen for some reason?
Review fees are nonrefundable and still required even if the study is not approved by the Advocate Aurora IRB, the study is terminated or withdrawn before enrollment begins, enrollment never occurs, or research objectives are not met.
What if a review fee is not paid?
Nonpayment of Advocate Aurora IRB Review Fees will be addressed by the Advocate Aurora RSPP, in consultation with Compliance and the Aurora Research Institute. If payment is late or overdue, we may deem researchers or sponsors ineligible to participate in future research projects.
Will you waive review fees?
We'll consider waivers of IRB review fees on a study-by-study basis.
What about for studies that are currently approved?
We'll charge a fee annually for all nonexempt studies.
What about studies that were ceded to an external IRB?
We will only charge a one-time initial review fee when you submit the initial ceding request to the Advocate Aurora RSPP office.
Will the review fee requirements ever change?
Maybe. The Advocate Aurora RSPP and Advocate Aurora Research and Compliance stakeholders will review Advocate Aurora IRB review fees periodically, and fees may be adjusted over time. We'll invoice the annual review fee for ongoing research under the policy at the time the review invoice is generated.
