Radiology Residency curriculum
Contact usThe first year of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program consists of a clinical year. If you’re accepted to the program, a position in our Transitional Year Residency Program will automatically be made available to you. Completion of the ACGME clinical year will meet your preliminary year requirement.
The next four years include rotations in Neuroradiology, Body Imaging, Cardiovascular, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Thoracic, Emergency, MSK, Women’s Imaging, Fluoroscopy/Procedures, OB and Interventional Radiology. There is also a three-month rotation at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Pediatric Radiology.
In addition, radiology residents:
- Benefit from the many conferences held at the hospital. There are teaching conferences and lectures daily in the department for all residents, as well as weekly physics lectures.
- Are expected to participate with hospital staff and residents from other programs in hospital-wide conferences such as Tumor Boards and a variety of specialty conferences. Residents are allotted four months of elective time, to be divided throughout their fourth year, to pursue specialty interests including opportunities in Global Health.
- Receive funding to attend a national meeting or review course during the R2, R3 and R4 years, in addition to other educational opportunities. A research fund to cover the cost to present at a national conference is provided to residents who publish a paper.
The Department of Radiology maintains its own library, including a collection of current texts, RSNA DVDs, ACR online access, E-Anatomy, StatDx/RADPrimer and video teaching files.
Residents also have the opportunity to enroll in the Radiologic Learning Institute (RLI) Health Care Economics Milestones Program. Each resident receives a yearly stipend for electronic educational equipment. Resident membership for the Milwaukee Roentgen Ray Society is funded.
