Spine physiatry symptoms & treatment
Request an appointmentSpine physiatrists are specially trained to diagnose and treat spine-related conditions. They will listen to you carefully and perform a thorough physical examination to properly identify the source of your pain. Spine physiatrists can help you ease your pain and restore your ability to move and function without using surgery. At Aurora, our physiatrists offer less-invasive treatments combined with medically supervised exercises to help you get back to the activities you love.
Spine physiatry treatments
Our physiatry techniques include:
- Interventional spinal injections: Guided by an X-ray, your physiatrist will inject steroid and anesthetic (numbing) medication into the area around your spinal nerves.
- Epidural steroid injection: This procedure is commonly used to treat low back or leg pain. Your doctor will inject steroid medication directly into the epidural space in your spine.
- EMG/NCS (electromyography and nerve conduction studies): These tests will show your physiatrist if you have any underlying nerve or muscle disorders.
Our physiatrists also work with integrative medicine doctors to heal your back and spine without surgery. Integrative medicine techniques include:
- Chiropractic: Helps restore a normal range of motion and promotes proper function between your joints and nervous system.
- Massage therapy: Eases muscle spasms and tension, improves circulation, decreases swelling and improves joint mobility.
- Acupuncture: Helps restore your body’s energy levels.
- Craniosacral therapy: Improves functioning of the membranes and fluid that surround the brain and spinal cord.
- Physical therapy
