Our philosophy
At Aurora, we help children and adolescents develop the tools they need to maintain a peaceful and stable life—for the long term.
While every individual has a unique treatment plan, the overall goals of our program are to:
- Stabilize moods
- Address problems at home, at school and in the community
- Teach the skills needed to explore and understand emotions, feelings and choices
- Focus on family needs through education, crisis intervention and aftercare support
- Encourage taking responsibility for choices and consequences
- Ensure a safe transition back to home and school
Continuum of care
Aurora offers multiple levels of care coordinated by a multidisciplinary team of experts, including:
-
Inpatient care: Inpatient psychiatric care for children and adolescents is designed to meet the specific needs of each young person in our program. We work directly with families to determine the best treatments for each child and adolescent.
Our treatment team includes child psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, nurses, and case managers. Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may include stabilization, medication management, multidisciplinary evaluation, education coordination and individual, group and family therapy.
If you are located in the Sheboygan area, we offer inpatient psychiatric care for children and adolescents (ages 12 to 18) at Aurora Medical Center – Sheboygan County.
- Partial hospitalization: This program provides intensive treatment in a structured environment, for children and adolescents ages 11-18 (18 year old must still be in high school), with less disruption to a child's regular routine. Our partial hospitalization comprehensive program utilizes group, education, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychiatry and family work to develop resources and skills helping to improve serious behavioral issues. Partial hospitalization also helps young people return more easily to their schools and activities following an acute episode of illness.
-
Day treatment: Our day treatment program is for children and adolescents ages 9 to 17 and provides a supportive and therapeutic environment designed to meet the needs of young people and their families. Daily morning or afternoon sessions, group and individual, enable your child to attend school while receiving treatment.
Parents or caregivers play an active role in this treatment and are required to attend regular family therapy sessions.
Our youth mental health services include monthly medication management evaluations with our program psychiatrist. And you can count on your treatment team to include Board-certified child psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists and nurses as well as school liaisons to help maintain communication with your child’s school counselors and educators.
Case management
Case managers and program therapists provide support to young people and their families throughout the course of treatment. They help shape the treatment plan, provide resources and referrals, and answer any questions that may arise.
