Enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP)

If you’re suffering from chest pain or heart failure, even simple activities like walking up a flight of stairs or loading the dishwasher can be challenging.

We’re here to help determine the best course of treatment to help you get back to feeling like yourself. Your doctor might recommend enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP) if you don’t qualify for bypass surgery, stents or angioplasty.

What is EECP?

Enhanced external counterpulsation is a non-invasive, outpatient treatment for frequent chest pain and heart failure. EECP helps prevent symptoms of chest pain or discomfort.

The goal in EECP therapy is to make your blood flow through your heart in a more efficient manner. It improves circulation and decreases the workload of the heart.

What to expect

EECP is completed in 35 one-hour weekly sessions. You won’t be sedated as EECP isn’t painful or invasive.

You’ll lie on a table as we wrap large blood pressure cuffs around your calves, thighs and buttocks. These cuffs inflate and deflate based on your heart rate, helping push blood back to the heart. After each appointment, you’ll be able to go back to your normal day.
