Laser & cosmetic surgery FAQ
Find a doctorFor your convenience, we’ve compiled a list of frequently asked questions. But if your question isn’t listed here, call or schedule a consult with an Aurora Health Care provider. We’re happy to help.
Why should I consider cosmetic plastic surgery?
Cosmetic surgery can help you look – and feel – better. With video technology, teleconferencing and online chats, we’re more visible than ever – both at work and in our free time. Cosmetic procedures can boost your confidence, making you feel your best no matter where you are.
Why should I choose Aurora?
At Aurora Health Care, we treat you like a person – not a patient. All our plastic surgeons are board certified, and our staff offers experience and compassionate care. We’ll develop a care plan just for you, and we’ll be with you every step of the way – from consultation through recovery.
How can I find out more about cosmetic plastic surgery at Aurora?
Schedule a consultation with one of our surgeons. They’ll be happy to discuss your concerns, answer your questions and tell you more about the treatment you’re considering. You can also learn about the procedures we offer.
How long do consultations last?
Most take about an hour.
What happens during my consultation?
Your doctor will talk with you about your medical history, do a detailed exam of the part of your body where you’re considering surgery and take photos. You’ll discuss your options, what to expect, pros and cons, and costs.
Should I bring anything?
If you have any medical records you think might relate to the procedure you’re considering, bring them to your consultation or have copies sent to your doctor's office.
Am I a good candidate for cosmetic plastic surgery?
Together, you and your doctor will discuss the procedure and if it will meet your needs. When you come in for your consultation, your surgeon will talk with you about what you’re hoping to achieve and what approach would work best for you.
What results can I expect?
Results vary from person to person. The providers at Aurora Health Care are dedicated to meeting – and exceeding – your expectations. During your consultation, your doctor will tell you what you can realistically expect from the procedure you’re considering.
Will I have general or local anesthesia?
That depends on the type of procedure you’re having. Surgeries like bariatric body contouring and breast augmentation are almost always done under general anesthesia. For others, you can have local anesthesia – or no anesthesia at all. We always choose the safest approach for you. Your surgeon will discuss your options with you before your procedure.
What are the risks?
All surgical procedures have risks. At Aurora, your safety is our top priority. We’ll take every precaution to protect you during every procedure we perform. Your surgeon will discuss potential risks with you ahead of time.
How much swelling or bruising can I expect after my surgery? How long will it last?
Swelling and bruising varies from person to person, as well as procedure. Before your procedure, your surgeon will talk with you about what to expect as you heal.
What is the recovery process like?
Recovery varies from person to person and procedure. Recovery time can last from a few minutes to a few weeks. If you have an injectable filler like Juvederm, for example, you’ll recover almost immediately. Recuperating after a major procedure like breast reduction, on the other hand, can take several weeks. Before your procedure, your doctor will talk with you about what to expect during your recovery.
How soon can I go back to work?
Your doctor will discuss when you can go back to work. After some procedures, such as injectables and fillers, you can go back to work immediately. More involved procedures sometimes require several days or weeks of rest. The type of work you do can affect your recovery time, too. Before your procedure, your doctor will talk with you about what to anticipate in terms of time off from work.
Can I see before-and-after photographs?
Yes. Ask your surgeon to show you before-and-after photographs of recent patients during your consultation.
How do I find a cosmetic plastic surgeon at Aurora?
Find one of our board-certified cosmetic plastic surgeons or schedule an appointment.
Do you accept insurance?
At Aurora Health Care, we accept most types of insurance, but many plans don’t cover elective surgeries, such as plastic surgery. Sometimes insurance will cover part or all of your surgery because of your medical history. If you have questions about your coverage, call your insurance company directly.
Do you offer any financing options?
Financing options may be available to you. To learn more about financing options available, please contact your clinic and provider. You can also finance your surgery privately.
