Laser skin resurfacing treatment

As you age, crow’s feet, laugh lines and other fine wrinkles can develop on your face. Laser light treatment – also called laser skin resurfacing, laser skin rejuvenation, laser vaporization, a laser peel or lasabrasion – can help remove these common signs of aging.

The laser process uses strong beams of light to treat the skin, helping to remove:

  • Birthmarks
  • Enlarged oil glands on the nose
  • Fine lines and wrinkles around and under the eyes, forehead and mouth
  • Liver spots, age spots and other pigment problems
  • Scars from acne or chickenpox
  • Sun damage
  • Warts
  • Yellowish or grayish skin tints

It’s safer and faster than surgery, making it a great option for many people.

Treatment options

During your consultation, your doctor will answer questions and discuss the results you’d like to see. He or she will work with you to determine the best approach to meet your needs. You may need one treatment or several treatments spread out over a number of weeks. All treatments are done in your provider’s office. For most people, treatment isn’t painful and recovery is quick.

At Aurora, we use several types of lasers:

  • Fraxel lasers treat sun damage, wrinkles and acne scars by stimulating the body to replace damaged or aged skin, working on one small section at a time. Doctors can sometimes use fraxel lasers to repair damaged skin on the chest, back, arms and legs. Typically, you’ll need 2 to 5 treatments and may have minor swelling, peeling or redness around treatment areas for up to a week.
  • CO2 lasers (or carbon dioxide lasers) improve skin’s texture and tighten loose skin by vaporizing scarred and damaged tissue to reveal smoother skin underneath. The laser goes over your skin’s entire surface, but treats only small, precise areas, which means you’ll heal faster. You’ll see results immediately, and your skin will produce new collagen for 6 months after your treatment, so your complexion will continue to improve. Most people need only one treatment.
  • Blood vessel lasers pinpoint and destroy vessels that discolor the skin. They remove red and purple tones caused by rosacea, acne scars, port wine stains and birthmarks without damaging the skin around them.
