As the least costly injury is the one that never occurs, we focus on improving the health of employees while creating safe environments to prevent workplace injuries.
Programs
Injury prevention
Keeping your employees healthy and your workplace safe is no accident. It requires attention to the environment, practices and design. That’s why we offer:
- Post offer – pre-placement functional test: This functional-based examination is used to evaluate a candidate’s ability to perform essential job functions.
- Ergonomic analysis for office and industrial settings: We assess the work environment for design and processes, then if needed, provide practical solutions to maximize efficiency and safety.
- Worksite stretching/movement program: This job-specific stretching and exercise program helps to lower the risk of musculoskeletal injuries by reducing fatigue and improving muscular balance, posture and flexibility.
- Workforce health education and training: We provide education in healthy work practices, including proper body mechanics, postures and lifting techniques.
Early intervention
Proactively addressing musculoskeletal issues related to job function or environment can be the difference between a minor concern and a recordable injury resulting in time off from work, medical intervention or impairment.
- Workforce coaching: We’ll review workstation set-ups and evaluate job-related body mechanics.
- Worksite rounding: These regularly scheduled on-site visits help address issues, make changes in workplace factors and reinforce healthy work practices.
Therapy
Tailored to the employee’s injury, we’ll work to improve strength and endurance while incorporating specific activities that replicate job functions.
“When I came to occupational therapy, it felt like I’d never regain mobility in my shoulder. Because of your expertise, I’ve been back at work for two years.”
Stephanie B., mail carrier
Return-to-work services
These customized programs help employees transition to full-duty work or maximum functional capacity. By carefully “fast tracking” clients back to the work environment, the program has proven to be cost efficient and time effective for employers.
- Functional capacity evaluation (FCE): This comprehensive evaluation is used to identify work capabilities, return-to-work status and validate consistency of effort.
- Workforce health program: This supervised, progressive, work-specific physical and occupational therapy program is designed to remediate the mismatch between an injured worker’s capabilities and full-duty work demands, including assessment of work tolerances, pace, endurance, strength, mobility and work behaviors.
“Your thorough diagnosis and treatment plan went beyond my injured knee. I completed the program and returned to work feeling 100% better.”
Joel S., firefighter
Program success
Advocate Aurora Workforce Health Programs have been shown to be statistically significant for returning clients back to work with fewer and/or no restrictions following an injury diagnosis – even individuals who have been off work for extended periods of time. A study of 495 program participants confirmed that early intervention and involvement with an interdisciplinary team were key factors associated with positive outcomes.
Historically, over 96% of clients who complete the program are able to successfully return to work.
