Physical therapy

Helping you get back to peak performance

What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy uses strength and range of motion exercises to help you recover from an injury or surgery. Physical therapy usually takes place a few times a week over the course of several weeks.

In many cases, physical therapy as a first line of treatment can help athletes and active adults delay or even avoid surgery altogether.

Comprehensive care

Aurora physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists collaborate with your physician to evaluate and address every aspect of your care. Our single electronic medical record links all your providers together for integrated care. We can send our physical therapy care plans home with you through an electronic home program, to keep you on track and connected. The goal of our team is to get you back to your peak performance levels for life, work and all you love to do.

Featured therapies

The following three types of care are some of the most common services requested from our teams.

Occupational therapy

Whether you’re recovering from surgery or a chronic condition, our occupational therapists work with you on daily routine activities.

Speech therapy

Speech therapists provide a wide range of services – helping restore the ability to eat and swallow safely, improve cognitive and communication skills and much more.

Sports health

We are one of Wisconsin’s foremost sports health providers. From overcoming an injury to improving your athletic performance, our sports health specialists can help you take your game to the next level with a variety of treatments.

Specialized care

Aurora physical therapists are highly skilled and specialize in many other areas, including cardiac rehab, orthopedics, neurosciences, children's health, pelvic floor health, cancer care, sports health, and balance and vestibular conditions.

Cardiac rehabilitation

After treatment for a heart issue, exercise and education can help pave the road to continued health. Our cardiac rehabilitation program is designed to improve your health after a cardiac event. Cancer physical therapy

As part of our cancer care services, Aurora offers physical therapy for cancer patients. Cancer physical therapy addresses the musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, and functional deficits associated with cancer and cancer treatments, including surgery, reconstruction, chemotherapy, radiation, and hormonal or biological therapies. Our cancer physical therapy team is dedicated to minimizing the effects associated with some cancer treatments while assisting in maximizing care options, quality of life, length of life and overall survival. Children’s health physical therapy

The primary goals of our children's health physical therapists are to help your child function at their highest potential, improve their quality of life and make them as functionally independent as their age allows. We’ll work closely with your child to help improve their range of motion, flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, motor skills, swallowing and speech. Some of our therapies can also assist in helping to improve the sensory system and cognitive abilities.

As part of the treatment process, you can count on our physical therapists to help educate and support your whole family. Learn more about general children’s health care services at Aurora.
