Breast reconstruction surgery
Find a doctorGoing through breast cancer is a life-changing experience, one that may leave you feeling uncomfortable in your own skin. If you’ve had a mastectomy or a partial mastectomy (sometimes called a lumpectomy) to treat breast cancer, breast reconstruction surgery can give your breasts a more normal, natural look, and help you feel your best. During the process, doctors use your own tissue or synthetic implants to help restore the original shape and size of one or both of your breasts.
Choose Aurora for your breast reconstruction
At Aurora, you’ll have a compassionate team of experts working with you. They’ll help you decide on the best approach to meet your needs. In most cases, you’ll have several stages of breast reconstruction at different times. Your doctors will coordinate with other cancer treatments you may have.
Treatments for breast reconstruction
Possible treatments include:
- Tissue expansion: Your surgeon places expanders in your chest, which stretch your skin gradually to create room for breast implants. The process usually takes four to six months.
- Transplantation: Muscle, fat and skin can come from your chest, abdomen, back or buttocks, or from healthy donor tissue. Your surgeon may also be able to preserve your nipple and areola or create new ones with skin grafting or other specialized techniques.
At Aurora, we strive to offer exceptional, compassionate care. Every Aurora reconstructive plastic surgeon is board certified and dedicated to making your breast reconstruction surgery both safe and successful. You can count on experience, skill and support through every step of your treatment and recovery.
