Healing and advocacy services for survivors

Aurora Health Care’s healing & advocacy services have been making life better for survivors since 1986. Through the years, our deep experience from treating thousands of survivors helps us deliver services that make a lasting, positive impact on people’s lives.

Highlights of our program include:

• Leadership: We are a resource to the community, raising awareness and improving our community-wide response to survivors. One of our many community involvement activities includes training doctors and nurses to identify survivors who may be in need of our services. Find out more about community involvement.
• New facilities: Many of our services are available in fresh, modern facilities, such as the Aurora Healing Center at Sinai Medical Center. Opened in 2017, this facility offers a soothing care environment as well as a spa-like shower. Learn more about our locations.
• Uncommon amenities: Our healing centers feature amenities that help survivors feel at ease right from the start. The Aurora Healing Center on Bruce Street including spacious therapy rooms with lots of natural light and snacks.
• Specialized support: At Aurora, survivors always have access to a caring ear through our advocacy services. Advocates help survivors navigate their options, provide emotional support and can be right by your side during meetings and appointments – like speaking with the police. Recovering from sexual assault on your own terms

At Aurora, survivors are in the driver’s seat. We explain which services may best meet your individual needs. We then help you decide how to move forward. For example, you may wish to receive a specialized nursing exam or counseling to meet your immediate needs. You are free to change your mind or ask for more information at any time.

Healing & advocacy services for sexual assault survivors

Our team is fully dedicated to meeting the unique needs of survivors, which helps us tailor care and services at the individual level. All of our support services are available at no cost to you.

Our services include:

• Forensic nursing: Our specially trained nurses collect evidence that can be used in court, should you wish to pursue your legal options. You can also just talk with a nurse to learn more about how we can help. Find out more about forensic nursing.
• Survivor advocacy: Advocates are dedicated experts who walk alongside you throughout your healing journey. We help you choose the treatment options that best meet your needs and help you overcome unexpected challenges.
• Counseling and emotional support: We help you cope with unpleasant feelings and learn how to move forward with your life in a positive way. Our team – which includes master’s-trained men, women and Spanish-speaking counselors – helps you get the personalized support you need. Learn more about counseling and support groups.
• Support for pregnant women and newborns: We help pregnant women and new moms get much-needed support after domestic violence. Our services, which include care coordination from a dedicated nurse case manager, are keeping moms and their babies safe and healthy. Find out more about our Safe Mom Safe Baby program.
