During cardiac surgeries, an anesthesiologist monitors the beating heart continuously using an ultrasound picture, giving the cardiac surgeon important, real-time information about the status of the heart and the effects of the surgery. What cardiothoracic anesthesia services and treatment are offered?

Our team prepares patients for surgery, administers anesthesia during operations and manages post-operative pain, including management of epidural catheters. Some of the surgeries the team administers anesthesia for include:

• Coronary artery bypass grafts
• Implantable ventricular assist devices
• Heart transplants and aortic arch replacements
• Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) – sometimes called an implantation (TAVI)
• Intra-operative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE ultrasound)
• Heart, liver, kidney and pancreas transplants, including combination transplants
