Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center heart & vascular services

Find a heart specialist

Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center is our flagship hospital in Milwaukee and the heart of our cardiovascular program.

You’ll find our most sophisticated facilities here – it’s where we treat patients with complex conditions, and it’s home to our cardiac specialty centers, world-renowned cardiac experts, state-of-the-art resources and groundbreaking clinical trials and cardiovascular research.

Placing your trust in our team

Coupled with their unmatched expertise, our heart and vascular specialists use advanced diagnostic and surgical technology to bring you the most innovative and effective care possible.

World-class facilities and expertise

  • Elite achievement in cardiovascular surgery: Our program is one of the few in the country to earn a 3-star rating from the Society for Thoracic Surgeons (STS) in every procedure category. The five categories include coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), aortic valve replacement (AVR), mitral valve repair/replacement (MVRR), AVR and CABG surgery, and MVRR and CABG surgery.
  • Vascular care innovation: We’re the only health system in Wisconsin that offers the pBranch device to treat aneurysms (bulges in arteries) near the kidney. Our vascular services also include customized abdominal aortic aneurysm stent grafts for unusually shaped aneurysms – we’re among the few places in the United States to do so.
  • Specialized cardiothoracic anesthesia program: Dedicated cardiothoracic anesthesiologists manage your cardiothoracic anesthesia care before, during and after heart surgery. Our experts take care of you during a procedure, and provide an important link between you and your surgeon.
  • Advanced treatment for heart failure: We’re leaders in ventricular assistant devices (VAD). Our VAD program is among the largest in Wisconsin. We provide approved artificial heart devices and offer clinical trial opportunities for devices that aren’t yet widely available.
  • Hybrid surgical suites: To provide complex and highly efficient heart and vascular treatments, our surgeons and electrophysiologists work side by side in innovative hybrid suites with access to the latest diagnostic and surgical technology.

Leading the way in cardiovascular care

  • Minimally invasive aortic valve replacement: We have the largest and most experienced Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) program in Wisconsin. Doctors and researchers worldwide recognize us as a leader in this minimally invasive procedure. Learn more about transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
  • Leaders in heart transplant: Aurora St. Luke’s surgeons performed the Midwest’s first heart transplant in 1968, and we performed our 1,000th in 2020. Since 1982, we’ve completed more heart transplants than any other health care system in the state – between 25 and 30 every year. And because more than 60% of transplant programs worldwide only perform 10 to 15 heart transplants yearly, our experienced surgeons know what works best if you need a heart transplant. Read more about heart transplant.
  • Hybrid procedure for AFib: We’re the first and only hospital in Wisconsin, and one of only a few in the nation, to offer a hybrid ablation technique to treat patients with atrial fibrillation. The hybrid technique provides healthier results compared to catheter ablation, the previous standard. Find out more about hybrid ablation procedure.
  • 4-d ultrasound cardiovascular imaging: We’re proud to be one of the first health systems in the world – and the first in Wisconsin – to use 4-D ultrasound cardiovascular imaging systems (moving images added to 3-D technology) in our imaging center.
