Aurora preventive care

A focus on your health and well-being

You don’t have to wait until you’re sick to see your doctor. Preventive care can help you feel your best and avoid illnesses and diseases. At Aurora Health Care, we offer complete preventive services to keep you healthy.

Physical exams to protect your health

At Aurora, our annual physical exams go beyond the routine. We spend time getting to know you so we can tailor the assessment to your needs and health history.

The most important reason not to skip your annual physical is to increase your chances of detecting chronic diseases in their early stages. Many health screenings are included in your annual physical, including pelvic and clinical breast exams. Our approach detects the earliest signs of diseases and illnesses, when they’re easier to treat.

Other benefits of getting an annual physical exam include:

  • Asking your provider about how you can lower your risks of diseases
  • Getting bloodwork to check for any nutrient deficiencies or signs of chronic health conditions
  • Scheduling or receiving necessary vaccines and preventive screenings
  • Scheduling specialty or follow-up care as needed
  • Talking about how your family history affects your risk of developing certain conditions
  • Telling your provider about any new symptoms or health changes

Health screenings to catch early signs of health problems

Health screenings are tests that catch the earliest signs of serious conditions, such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease – when you don’t have symptoms. Screening tests may also show whether you face an increased risk for certain conditions, so you can take steps to reduce it.

Many screening tests require a simple blood or urine test. Some involve imaging or other procedures, such as a mammogram or colonoscopy. You can often have screenings during your regular checkup, or we can schedule your appointment at or near your local provider’s office. Learn more about health screenings.

Vaccines to prevent illnesses

Vaccines and immunizations are an important part of staying healthy. They prevent many common illnesses and diseases.

Your primary care provider recommends the right vaccines for you based on your age, health history and other factors, such as working in a health care setting. We also offer easy access to immunizations and vaccines in Aurora clinics and pharmacies close to your home, work or school.

How we make preventive care better

Preventive care can help you live your best life, staying healthy and doing the activities you enjoy. The benefits of getting preventive care at Aurora include:

  • Easy access to care: Preventive services are available at primary care clinics throughout eastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Many of our locations offer evening and weekend hours. You can also get some services, such as certain vaccinations, without an appointment.
  • Low or no cost to you: Most health insurance plans cover the cost of preventive services, including physical exams, some screenings and vaccines. Coverage varies based on your insurance plan and may require a co-pay. Learn more about health plans we accept.
  • Coordinated care with specialists: If you need specialized care, your Aurora primary care provider can connect you with experienced Aurora specialists. Your provider stays in close contact with them and has access to the same electronic health record system they use for updates on your care. At Aurora, you receive world-class specialty care for any condition.
  • Fewer illnesses and care visits: Preventive care keeps you healthy – and out of the emergency room or urgent care clinic. You’ll save money on medical bills and improve your quality of life.
  • Longer, healthier life: Regular screenings help detect serious diseases early, when treatment has the best chance of success. And reducing your risk of chronic health conditions helps you stay healthier for a longer life.
