The adult behavioral health program
At Aurora, we want to offer hope for a better life. We understand that problems like addiction, anxiety, depression, anger and phobias can feel alienating and debilitating. They affect all aspects of your life, from your relationships with friends and family to your professional career. Our behavioral health care services can help you develop the tools and support you need to live your best life.
Type of care
We offer several levels of care to help you with your recovery goals and needs.
- Inpatient care is available for individuals with severe mental health or substance abuse problems. The goal is rapid stabilization to prepare the individual for the next level of care.
- Partial hospitalization care immerses patients in short-term care through our hospital facilities.
- Intensive outpatient care offers intensive treatment, but also provides flexible programs that allow patients to go about their daily lives.
- Residential care provides treatment through a live-in program for individuals struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders.
Treatment approach
Mental health and substance abuse problems have a variety of psychological, biological and social causes. That’s why we take a holistic approach to helping you get on the road to recovery. Treatment may include psychiatric evaluation, medication management, group therapy, family therapy and education.
Treatment goals for everyone in our behavioral health facilities include:
- Creating a sense of safety
- Stopping harmful behaviors
- Teaching patients ways to understand and manage their illness
- Providing strategies for preventing relapse
- Developing skills for self-care
Types of conditions
At Aurora, our behavioral health care is tailored to each patient’s specific concerns. Programs for mental health and substance abuse address:
- Affective disorders: atients learn to recognize the triggers or factors contributing to severe affective disorders like depression, anxiety or self-harm. We help patients develop skills to help reduce symptoms and prevent relapse.
- Thought disorders: We help patients understand the nature of disorders like psychosis, mania or schizophrenia, and show them strategies to manage disorganized thinking and to prevent relapse.
- Substance abuse/dual diagnosis: Patients begin the path to sobriety with detoxification and treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders.
How our program can help
The Adult Behavioral Health Program at Aurora provides evidence-based treatment and support to help people struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues. We believe you are not defined by your illness. Our psychiatrists, doctors, therapists and nurses treat everyone in our behavioral health programs with sensitivity and compassion. Condition-specific adult mental health services and substance abuse treatment offer a holistic approach that addresses the physical, psychological and social aspects of a condition.
We want you to feel healthy, safe and stable. Our behavioral health programs are designed to help you develop personalized strategies for managing stress, panic, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, anger, irrational fears or other emotional and behavioral problems.
What is recovery?
At Aurora, we believe recovery is a journey of healing and transformation that begins with you. Recovery requires hope and courage – the hope for a better, healthier future and the courage to take the first step and seek help.
When you or a loved one is ready for help with a mental illness or substance abuse problem, we’re here for you. Aurora is also committed to your long-term success, and encourages you to reconnect with family, friends and community to start building the network needed for lifelong recovery.
