Family medicine
For comprehensive health care for the whole family, turn to the family medicine doctors at Aurora Health Care. Our family physicians have training and experience in diagnosing and treating people of all ages for almost any health condition. We build long-lasting relationships with you and your family so we can provide the right care whenever you need us.
What is family medicine?
Family medicine doctors, also called family physicians or practitioners, provide primary care for people at every stage of life, from newborns through seniors. You often receive care from your family physician throughout your life, and we may provide care for everyone in your family.
When you establish a relationship with one of our family physicians, they become your trusted health partner. Your provider gets to know you, your medical history and family history, which helps them monitor your health over time and catch problems early.
At Aurora, our family physicians are all board-certified in family medicine. They focus on wellness, disease prevention and chronic disease management. They have completed advanced education and training in several medical fields, including:
- Internal medicine
- Pediatric medicine
- Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN)
- Psychiatry and neurology
- Surgery
- Community medicine (public health)
Family medicine treatments and services
As your first point of contact for health care, we provide a wide variety of services and treatments, including:
- Preventive care: We provide annual physical exams and counseling on wellness and disease prevention to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle. Our complete health screenings, vaccinations and health risk assessments help detect problems early and reduce your risk of disease. Learn more about our preventive care.
- Diagnosis of emerging conditions: If you experience new or unusual symptoms, we’re your first call. We evaluate you thoroughly – using imaging and other tests as needed – to find the causes and confirm a diagnosis.
- Chronic disease management: We provide ongoing, personalized care to manage chronic conditions, such as asthma and diabetes. Because we’re familiar with your health history, we can quickly spot any changes and adjust your treatment plan as needed.
- Acute care: We prescribe medications and therapies for acute (short-term, sudden) illnesses and injuries such as flu, infections or muscle pain. You can also see us for emergency care for minor injuries such as burns and deep cuts.
- In-office procedures: Your family physician can perform minor procedures such as skin biopsies and joint injections in the office. You receive care where it’s convenient for you, avoiding the need for a specialist visit.
- Referrals and coordinated care: If you need treatment from other specialties, your family physician can refer you to the right specialist. At Aurora, you have access to exceptional care from experts in every specialty. Using the same electronic health record system, we stay involved and informed to manage your overall health.
