The best way to ensure your telehealth video visits are done in private and confidentially is by doing them in a room with a door you can close. This can include a bedroom in your home, or an office or conference room at work.
If a private room isn’t an option, you could do your video visit in your parked car in a parking lot or outside, away from other people. Note it’s not safe to drive during a video visit. Be sure your car is parked during your visit.
You could use headphones to block out background noise if you do your video visit in a public place like a coffee shop or library. However, people can still hear your response to questions the virtual care provider asks about your health.
With telehealth visits, you can get care when it’s convenient, like during your lunch break or after putting the kids to bed. It’s also a convenient option when you need care outside of your provider’s office hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Of course, not every visit can be virtual. If you’re experiencing difficulty breathing or other severe symptoms, seek in-person emergency care immediately or call 911.
Yes, they can join your video visit if they normally go with you to in-person medical appointments. Otherwise, to maintain telehealth confidentially, you’ll want to be in a room by yourself.
If you request a Quick Care Video Visit for minors ages 2-18 as their legally authorized representative, be prepared to have the child present and visible with you for the duration of the video visit. The virtual care provider might need to ask the child questions or to see them to visually to exam their symptoms.
