When to use telehealth
We’re here to treat your minor symptoms and conditions anytime, anywhere.
It’s the middle of the night and your child wakes up with a stomach bug. You could wait until morning to see if the doctor can squeeze you in for an appointment. Or you could get answers now with a telehealth visit.
Instead of driving for an in-person office or clinic visit, you can get a diagnosis and treatment for many minor illnesses and injuries with a telehealth visit. Just hop on your phone, tablet or computer to receive a diagnosis and treatment plan from a virtual care provider.
If you’re too sick to leave the house or you need care after hours, we offer convenient ways for you to get virtual care when you need it. Here’s a look at some of the conditions covered in video visits and e-visits.
Quick Care Video Visits cover a set of conditions for minor illnesses or concerns including:

If you need care during office hours, video visits with your provider could be an option when you’re not feeling well. Pairing virtual visits with your provider and in-person visits could help you monitor your health if you’re managing a chronic disease. Check with your provider’s office to see if a telehealth visit is right for your situation.
When you use Symptom Checker to help you choose the right type of care based on your symptoms, e-visits are an online care offering that may be available to you. E-visits are an option to get virtual care 24/7 for minor illnesses, including cold symptoms, anxiety or depression, headache and head lice for kids. See the list of e-visit conditions we treat in our FAQ.
With telehealth visits, you can get care when it’s convenient, like during your lunch break or after putting the kids to bed. It’s also a convenient option when you need care outside of your provider’s office hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Of course, not every visit can be virtual. If you’re experiencing difficulty breathing or other severe symptoms, seek in-person emergency care immediately or call 911.
Telehealth is a convenient option when your child gets sick. No need to get everyone into the car for an office visit or wait until morning for answers if they get sick in the middle of the night.
Instead, you can request a video visit for kids ages 2-17 if you’re their legally authorized representative. Be sure the child is present and visible with you for the duration of the appointment.
You can also use Symptom Checker and submit an e-visit for kids ages 2-11 if you're their legally authorized representative and an e-visit is offered.
Since kids younger than 2 still need to be seen by their own provider, it’s best to call the office about scheduling a video visit or in-person appointment instead.
Who you’ll see during a virtual visit depends on the type of virtual care you’re seeking. For video visits with your own provider, you’ll see an online doctor or other member of your care team during video visits with your provider.
Both Quick Care Video Visits and e-visits are options to get 24/7 care. When you start a Quick Care Video Visit, you’ll meet with the next available virtual care provider for help with minor illnesses or concerns. Likewise, the next available virtual care provider will message you a diagnosis and treatment plan when you choose to complete an e-visit after using Symptom Checker. Or you can choose to submit your e-visit to your own primary care provider, who will respond within 24 hours.
